Parent-Student Resources

The dress code for St. Jerome School is aimed at encouraging students to take pride in themselves and to dress in a respectful manner. Our school is a place of learning and a place to promote Christian values. With this in mind, we have set the following guidelines:

• Students are to wear appropriate school clothing which is neat, clean, and modest.
• Tank tops, bare midriff tops, spandex – INCLUDING leggings, shirts/clothing with inappropriate pictures or sayings, and similar clothing are NOT allowed.
• Sleeveless shirts/dresses may be worn, but must cover 3/4 of the top of the shoulder.
• Shorts and skirts must be of an appropriate length. Skirts and shorts must measure 3” above the knee or longer. Shorts must be in good condition - NO cutoffs. This includes gym classes and athletic programs.
• Students must dress appropriately for the weather.
• Hats/caps are not to be worn in the school building or in any public building (field trips; including students and visitors).
• Girls are NOT allowed to have any other body parts pierced other than ears. Boys are not allowed to have any piercings, including ears.
• Hair color and extreme hairstyles (including Mohawks) are NOT acceptable.
• NO undergarments may be showing at any time.
• All students and staff must wear appropriate clothing for Church and all school programs. NO t-shirts with writing or pictures larger than the size of a credit card other than St. Jerome apparel. NO athletic shorts/pants – INCLUDING leggings.

CLOTHING ITEMS NOT PERMITTED

Leggings (must have a long shirt or dress/skirt), short skirts/shorts, shirts hanging lower than shorts, tight biker shorts/spandex, t-shirts with any alcohol, tobacco or drug references. Clothing which depicts or promotes violence, death through photos or words including skulls, or inappropriate TV shows or movies, chains hanging from pockets. No jeans/pants with holes. Shirts must cover stomach area and back area at all times. These guidelines also include attire for gym classes.

Parents are responsible for what their children wear and we ask for your cooperation. We reserve the right to decide what is ‘appropriate’ and to ask a student not to wear a particular piece of clothing again. Parents will be notified if a repeated offense occurs. They may be asked to bring a change of clothing for their child if it is very inappropriate. A third offense may result in a detention.
